How do I know if my avocado is ripe and ready to eat?
Avocado is ready to eat when it yields slightly to gentle pressure, when it feels just a tiny bit soft, not hard (that would mean it is not ripe enough yet), and not squishy (that would mean it is overripe). Once cut, the right consistently of Hass organic avocado is similar to mousse or ice cream. Avocados do not ripen on the tree and will usually ripen 7-14 days after harvest. If there are no delays during shipment, you should will have a few days before avocado reaches perfect ripeness. The skin of Hass avocado will look dark green or almost black when it is ready to eat. However, skin color is not reliable indication that avocado is right. Softness is a more reliable indicator.
Is there a way to accelerate ripening of California organic avocados delivered from Zava Ranch?
The simplest way to ripen the avocado is to leave it on the counter for a few days. It will usually ripen in a few days and upto a week. However, if faster ripening time is desired, it is recommended to place avocado in a paper bag with an apple or a banana. Close the paper bag and leave on the counter 24-48 hours. Periodically check for ripeness by applying gentle pressure and checking for uniform softness.
Ripe avocados need to be eaten as soon as possible and usually within 24 hours of reaching desired softness. Once the avocados have reached desired softness/ripeness, they can be stored in the refrigerator for several days.
